VISTAKON Launches 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye

VISTAKON, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., announced the US introduction of 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye Brand Contact Lenses (narafilcon A), a silicone hydrogel daily replacement lens currently worn by over 1.3 million patients worldwide. 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye Brand (narafilcon A) is now available at some US eyecare professionals’ offices, with distribution expected to grow throughout the coming months.

1-DAY ACUVUETruEye (narafilcon A) is designed to help maintain the natural ocular environment, offering a distinctive balance of properties that enables it to offer exceptional comfort, comparable to a contact lens-free eye. “1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye was designed, developed, and clinically researched versus the ultimate benchmark: the natural eye,” says Dick Wallingford, O.D., senior director, Professional Affairs, VISTAKON.

The lens features HYDRACLEAR1 Technology, which attracts tear film to help maintain the natural ocular environment for all-day comfort; High O2 Consumption, allowing 100 percent corneal oxygen consumption at all points across minus and plus powers for white, healthy-looking eyes, and Class-1
UV-Blocking, offering patients the highest level of UV protection in a contact lens, blocking approximately 96 percent of UV-A rays and greater than 99 percent of UV-B rays that reach the lens.

1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye Brand Contact Lenses (narafilcon A) will gradually replace
1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon B),  which was launched in the U.S. in 2010.  “The narafilcon B product was only being utilized in the US and a few Caribbean countries, while the narafilcon A product, launched in 2008, has become the global standard throughout Europe, Japan, and other markets,” explains VISTAKON president Dave Brown. “We believe we will better be able to serve the needs of our customers around the world by having one version of this breakthrough product.”

A majority of the material properties of 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon A) are similar to the narafilcon B product, “but they are different products,” says Dr. Wallingford. One key difference is that

1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon A) is available in two base curves (8.5 and 9.0) allowing more patients to be fit with this lens. “In a clinical trial of current 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon B) lens wearers, 99 percent of subjects were evaluated to have an acceptable lens fit with 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEyeBrand Contact Lenses (narafilcon A),” he notes. “In addition, 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon A) has a DK/t of 118 for increased oxygen transmissibility with virtually no impact to modulus.

1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye(narafilcon A) will only be available in 90-packs.”Research shows that 95 percent of 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye patients currently purchase 90-packs,” notes Brown.

According to VISTAKON, there will be a finite amount of time in which both the narafilcon A and narafilcon  B products will be available in the U.S.

“Our aim is to quickly transition to 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon A), and we will provide doctors with a number of tools to help smooth the conversion process for eye care professionals and patients,” notes Brown. “We are confident that 1-DAY ACUVUE TruEye (narafilcon A) will help doctors make more patients happy, and drive additional patient referrals – the key to practice growth.”
