Vision for Life: Creating a Holistic Eyecare Practice

Aleksandra Wianecka, OD, has transformed a traditional practice in Babylon, NY, into a holistic eyecare practice with a mission of providing “Vision for Life.” In this three-video series, she outlines how she defines her practice, how she promotes healthy living to her patients by discussing diet and nutritional supplements, and how she networks with other practitioners in helping her patients to live healthy lifestyles. Her efforts pay off as patients live healthier lives and make enthusiastic referrals.

ACTION PLAN

SET A MISSION. “Eat well, live well, and see well” defines Dr. Wianecka’s holistic eyecare practice.
TALK TOTAL BODY WELLNESS. Patients appreciate your concern for their total health.
NETWORK. Refer to (and be referred by) other practitioners who promote healthier lifestyles.

SET A MISSION. Dr. Wianecka describes how she presents her mission of providing “vision for Life” to her patients. She defines her concept on her web site (www.visionforlifeod.com.) She then expands the parameters of caring for vision in discussions during the comprehensive eye exam. The frequent occurrence of dry eye provides a leading opportunity to discuss the contribution that good diet and supplements can make in treating eye conditions holistically.

TALK TOTAL BODY WELLNESS. In the eye exam, Dr. Wianecka emphasizes that patients should aspire to “eat well, live well, see well.” Dr. Wianecka says that her patients react very positively to her expanded discussion of diet, nutritional supplements and homeopathy. She cites examples of treating dry eye and early macular degeneration and describes some of the fundamental changes her patients have made in the overall treatment of those conditions. She says that dedicated patients whose overall health has been improved tend to visit her office more often and also make enthusiastic referrals.

NETWORK. Dr. Wianecka networks with other holistic practitioners (chiropractors, acupuncturists and nutritional counselors) within a small radius of her office. This has yielded numerous referrals, she says, with corresponding revenue gains. Patients also appreciate the referrals she provides to them—and they are very thankful for being helped to begin a process a living a healthy life.
