Virtual Roundtable on Cosmetics & Ocular Surface Disease

May 15, 2020

The Intrepid Eye Society is presenting a virtual roundtable discussion, “Beauty Battle! Bros vs Bettys,” on the link between cosmetics and ocular surface disease on Thursday, May 21, 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Dry eye and ocular surface disease has been a growing area of interest in recent years. Many of a patient’s lifestyle choices, such as cosmetics and ocular hygiene products, can be contributing factors to this loss of ocular homeostasis, the Intrepid Eye Society noted in a press release.

The roundtable is intended to spark discussion on the nexus between beauty and hygiene products and ocular surface health. It will also explore the differences in practitioner perspectives on patient education techniques with regard to these products while debunking gender stereotypes about the use of cosmetics.

Additionally this roundtable is intended to set up The Intrepid Eye Society’s monthly CE webinar on June 10, 8:30pm Eastern time, “Beauty Confidential: Unlocking the Secrets to Safe Beauty,” in which Intrepid experts, Dr. Leslie O’Dell, Dr. Selina McGee and Dr. Tracy Doll will reveal clinical tips on how to navigate the world of cosmetics and beauty enhancements as an optometrist guiding patients on how best to protect their eyes.
