Transitions Optical Launches Signature VII Lenses with Chromea 7

Transitions Optical, Inc., says it has launched its most responsive everyday adaptive lenses ever: Transitions Signature VII lenses with Chromea7  technology. Available Jan. 7, 2014, Transitions Signature VII lenses will replace Transitions VI lenses in the Transitions family of products as the optimal lens for maximum indoor clarity and responsiveness to UV outdoors.

Through its product development model – Life360 – Transitions Optical developed Transitions Signature VII lenses to be more responsive in more situations, testing them in more than 200 conditions representing real life lighting situations including various temperatures, weather conditions and geographies. New Transitions Signature VII lenses use the patented Chromea7 technology, an exclusive dye formulation that allows the lenses to be more reactive to indirect sunlight and reflected sunlight, and become even darker on hot days. Transitions Signature VII lenses provide this outdoor performance without sacrificing indoor clarity, making them the ideal replacement for clear lenses. In live wearer testing , eight out of 10 clear lens wearers rated Transitions Signature VII lenses better than their regular clear lenses.

“There is a real opportunity for eyecare professionals to convert clear lens wearers into Transitions lens wearers,” says Brian Hauser, general manager, US and Canada, Transitions Optical. “Transitions VI lenses have been in the market for six years. This is the longest we’ve gone without a generational change, so the new technology will create a lot of excitement. Furthermore, for the first time, we will be bringing attention to our new product technology by calling out both the newness of Transitions Signature lenses and the Chromea7 technology by name in our consumer campaign. Eyecare professionals can recommend this new choice in adaptive lenses with more confidence than ever, knowing that come January 7, all potential lens wearers will be seeing Transitions Signature lenses in all our communication vehicles, from print and TV to social media.”

Revolutionary Testing to Develop a Superior Wearer Experience
Transitions Optical tested the performance of Transitions Signature VII lenses and the new Chromea7 technology by using its Life360 methodology, which consists of not only traditional laboratory measurements, but also live wearer testing and real world measurements. Testing validated that Transitions Signature VII lenses are more responsive to both direct and indirect sunlight, which means they get darker when facing away from the sun, in reflected light and at different times of day; many of the outdoor conditions that wearers commonly encounter.

Like Transitions VI lenses, Transitions Signature VII lenses will be offered in gray and brown. The difference is that Transitions Signature VII lenses are a more aesthetically pleasing gray and brown.“The gray tint is a more neutral color, offering true life color and the brown is the best everyday, contrast-enhancing lens we’ve ever offered,” says John Ligas, director, research and development, Transitions Optical.

In wearer tests, Transitions Signature VII lenses had high patient satisfaction, both indoors and outdoors. Transitions Signature VII lenses were preferred two to one over Transitions VI lenses. This superior wearer experience is due to an optimal balance of benefits: better darkness outdoors; improved responsiveness in more situations; speed of activation and fade back; and clarity indoors and at night.

“Performance evaluations and measurements are only meaningful if they reflect what wearers are actually experiencing with the lenses, and the live wearer testing of Transitions Signature VII lenses confirms the enhanced wearer experience that these lenses provide,” explains Ligas. “This is why our Life360 approach now guides our product development.”
