Your patients and staff are under stress to avoid germs and stay safe, as are you. With so much riding on cleanliness and thorough disinfection, it’s a relief to have found a frame disinfection system that does everything we need. Here is how the frame disinfection system we have implemented, ZEISS UVClean, has vastly improved our management of disinfecting protocol.

Consistently Clean & Fresh
Before bringing ZEISS UVClean into our practice, we had no way of knowing whether each frame had been cleaned up to our standards. There was room for variability in disinfection depending on which staff member had cleaned the frame, how much cleaning solution they had used, and how much time they had taken for the disinfection process.

The great thing about ZEISS UVClean is there is total consistency in how each frame on our board has been cleaned. We know for certain that all frames that have gone through the ZEISS UVClean system have been equally–and fully–disinfected.

We also worried about leaving behind a foul-smelling chemical odor that would turn off patients. In addition to assurance that all frames on our board have been fully disinfected, there is no pungent odor left behind. Our optical continues to smell as fresh and pleasant as it always has.

Damage-Free Disinfection

No Chance of Damaging Inventory
Another great advantage of ZEISS UVClean is that it definitely won’t damage any of the frames I have invested in.

ZEISS tested frames, demo lenses, frame tags, Rx lenses and Rx coatings to ensure that they can safely be used in the ZEISS UVClean system.

Efficient & User Friendly
In our practice, each optician working with a patient, who has touched and/or tried on a frame, is responsible for using the ZEISS UVClean system to disinfect the frames before putting them back on the board. Having each optician take personal responsibility for cleaning frames means there is never a question that all frames on our board are disinfected and safe for the next patient to try on.

The ZEISS UVClean system is so easy to use that opticians load in as many as eight frames at one time, and 40 seconds later, those frames have all been completely disinfected. All the optician has to do is flip up the top of the ZEISS UVClean, drop the frames in, hit a button and 40 seconds later a green light appears letting the optician know the frames have been disinfected.

I estimate that ZEISS UVClean saves at least 30 minutes per day of each of our five opticians’ time. That’s time they now use to further interact with our patients, educating them about our eyewear and services.

A Solution that Instills Confidence in Staff
The ease of use and thoroughness of cleaning mean our staff has a solution to a huge pandemic challenge. Our staff has told me they love ZEISS UVClean, and wouldn’t want to live without it. It’s made their workplace and service to patients much safer, and has done so in a way that also makes their work life easier.

Before implementing this system in our office, staff had to get sanitizer and wipes, spray the frames, and then let the frames sit for minutes–all the while getting drying chemicals on their hands. Now, they can do frame disinfection in a matter of seconds without having to retrieve multiple supplies, and consuming valuable minutes of their time.

Give Patients the Assurance They Need to Visit Your Office
After the lockdown of the spring, one of the questions we had most often after reopening was whether it was safe to try on frames. Now that patients see the ZEISS UVClean system in our office, they are reassured that we are doing all we can to protect them. The presence of the system in our office provides a conversation starter about the consistency and standardization of our disinfection process.

The fact that the system is UL Listed and has been reviewed by both the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, for use in an optical dispensary, gives our patients and staff the added security that this is not just our office protocol, but a disinfection device and process that has received outside validation.

That the system comes from ZEISS, a trusted name that many of our patients are familiar with, is all the more reassurance to those visiting our office. Everyone in our office–patients, staff and doctors–can stand behind the standard of disinfection for all frames on our board. We are doing all we can to create a safe, secure environment in a potentially dangerous, insecure time.
