ROB Vlog: Start Early in Encouraging Patients to Spend Benefits

With Agustin Gonzalez, OD, FAAO, ABCMO

Avoid the end-of-year rush to use vision benefits by letting patients know the advantage of coming in during the fall for their eye exam and eyewear needs.

COMMUNICATE WITH MEDICARE PATIENTS. Let them know their insurance deductable has most likely been spent by the fall, so that there will be less out-of-pocket expenses toward the end of the year for them to purchase eyewear or contact lenses.

USE EHR MARKETING INTELLIGENCE. Use your electronic health records software to identify all Medicare patients, or those who haven’t been in the office for an exam in more than a year.

USE MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION CHANNELS. Send e-blasts alerting patients to the opportunity for an exam and eyewear purchase in October or November. But also consider sending postcards by postal mail, and post reminders to patients to use their benefits before the end of the year to your practice Facebook page.
