How to Reset Your Office Culture with Help from Staff

March 7, 2018

Having a winning staff is critical to practice success, says Jennifer Keller, OD, of Park Rapids and Walker Eye Clinics in Park Rapids and Walker, Minn. Heading a team that supports the practice mission sometimes requires significant personnel change. See how one practice has remade its staff, set a clear practice mission and developed a positive team culture–with dramatic upside results.

CREATE MISSION STATEMENT TOGETHER. Meet with staff, and discuss what is most important to caring for patients, and creating a positive work environment. Then, put it in writing.

HOLD STAFF ACCOUNTABLE. Once you decide on cultural musts, such as being open to change, respecting each other and valuing team work, take action to warn, and if necessary, terminate, employees who don’t meet the new expectations.

SHOW STAFF YOUR PERSPECTIVE. When staff helps write the mission statement, and knows they will be held accountable for putting the stated values into action, they can more easily see how and why the practice owners care about patient care and daily practice operations.
