Polaroid Sunglasses Launches UV Protection App

Nov. 25, 2015

Polaroid Sunglasses is launching an international awareness campaign about the risks of UV radiation, as well as a UV app that measures UV radiation and alerts the user when it reaches dangerous levels. The free app, called Polaroid UV Alert, is designed exclusively for iPhones and the Apple Watch, and is also compatible with iPads and iPod Touch.

The UV mobile app is a tool designed for parents, with the aim of prevention and education about protection, since exposure of insufficiently protected eyes to UV rays can cause short- and long-term health problems, especially for children.

According to WSPOS (World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus), “Whenever outside, appropriate UVA/B blocking protective lenses in well fitted, safe frames are valuable for all; particularly in the younger child, adolescent and those who are geographically or medically at higher risk. The lenses should block at least 99 percent of UVA/B light and meet local protection standards.”

The iPhone and Apple Watch app will also include information on Polaroid polarized sunglass lenses and lens technology, in addition to detailed information on UV radiation protection and clear directions on where to buy Polaroid sunglasses. Polaroid sunglasses provide 100 percent UV400 protection, thanks to the brand’s exclusive Ultrasight lenses, which allow only 1 percent of UV rays to pass through up to 400 nm.

The first Polaroid UV Alert app for iPhones and became available in Sweden, Italy and Spain in June 2015 and is now available in the U.S. for free download from Apple’s iTunes Store.
