Phoenix Area Vision Source Members Join AZ Care Network Accountable Care Organization

Vision Source members in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area have joined the Arizona Care Network, a clinically integrated accountable care organization led by physicians and supported by Abrazo Health and Dignity Health Arizona. The nearly 30 clinicians in the 14 participating Vision Source optometric practices will provide access to eye health and vision services to the more than 100,000 patients served by the Arizona Care Network, a group of health care providers working together to share responsibility in providing patient-centered care to Medicare fee-for-service patients.

“We are honored to begin this new relationship with Arizona Care Network and the opportunity to provide its members with state-of-the-art eye health and vision services in a warm and welcoming clinical environment,” says Vision Source President and CEO Jim Greenwood. “This innovative solution for collaborative care will help address the need for quality eyecare screenings, management and treatment for a rapidly growing senior population faced with the risk of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.”

“The addition of Vision Source into Arizona Care Network supports our efforts to expand the high-quality health care service providers available within the network to meet the needs of patients throughout Arizona,” says Mark Stephan, MD, medical director for quality and utilization for Arizona Care Network.

Accountable care organizations such as the Arizona Care Network are one form of coordinated care organization expected to increase in prominence and their involvement of optometrists, according to a recent Vision Monday article: “ACOs—Where Do I Fit In? What You Need to Know about Accountable Care Organizations.”
