PEN Alters Annual Program to Include Coverage of Compliance and Coding Issues

Primary Eyecare Network (PEN), the practice development division of ABB OPTICAL GROUP, is updating its 18th annual educational series for doctors presented by John A. McGreal, OD. The 2014 series, which in the past covered only Medicare billing and coding, will have a broader scope and address the complex compliance and coding issues facing optometry today.

“This year is different!” says Dr. McGreal, director of the Missouri Eye Associates and international lecturer. “Healthcare reform is here. The Affordable Care Act implementation is upon us. The change to ICD–10CM is this October. Audits across the country are ramping up at an alarming rate. The HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations have changed! For all these reasons, we need to put forth a different program in January, Compliance & Coding: Strategies for 2014.”

In addition to covering 2014 Medicare updates, ICD–10, and the basics of healthcare reform, Dr. McGreal will be bringing in other content leaders to help him address the other larger-than-usual changes for 2014.

Jon Weeding, president of CS EYE, a company dedicated to helping optometrists become compliant across all aspects of their businesses, will help participants understand and find solutions to the new HIPAA regulations. Joyce Ardrey, a certified professional coder and auditor with 30 years of experience in optometry, will help doctors understand the risks they face and provide a solid foundation on compliance for independent practices. Ardrey has a wealth of experience in eye-specific audits across the country.

All the presenters will participate in a panel discussion with ample time for questions and interaction. The presenters, a practicing optometrist and a compliance expert and auditor, will be available to help attendees deal with these difficult issues.

Compliance & Coding: Strategies for 2014, will take place in four locations throughout California: Glendale (Jan 18, 2014), Irvine (Jan 19, 2014), Sacramento (Jan 25, 2014), and San Ramon (Jan 26, 2014).
