Optometric alliance OD Excellence is presenting a full schedule of symposia/workshops, titled “ICD-10 & Health Care Reform Boot Camp.” These half-day events, all on Sundays, are being held in eight major metros around the nation throughout 2014.
“For independent optometrists, no challenge looms larger than understanding and meeting the goals and regulations of health care reform,” says Jerome Lieblein, OD, co-founder and CEO of OD Excellence. “At the same time, optometrists are in a prime position to prosper in this era of expanded access to affordable care—provided we embrace change and equip ourselves to be major players in the health care delivery of the future.”
Featured presenters at the Boot Camps are three noted experts on health care reform: John McGreal, OD; Jim Grue, OD; and Jon Weeding. (A full schedule of dates and locations follows.)
The concept of addressing the complexities of billing & coding and health care reform in a “boot camp” format emerged from OD Excellence’s experience in providing practice management education and resources to ODs over many years.
“Time and again, ODs tell us, ‘I just don’t understand how to get started with health care reform,’” Lieblein explains. “In fact, health care reform challenges us all to educate ourselves in the basics, as well as the complexities. That’s what our Boot Camp does.”
Boot Camp sessions are designed for independent ODs, but also for key members of the practice’s health care delivery team. “Staff needs to support the doctor in all stages of patient care and fee reimbursement,” says Lieblein. “Having an informed, motivated practice team is what differentiates our practices and enables us not just to survive—but to thrive.”
