March 13, 2019

Most contact lens wearers have room for improvement when it comes to following their doctor’s recommendations for maintaining good eye health, according to a new survey commissioned by Sightbox among 1,000 U.S. adults.

About half of people surveyed report being very likely to receive an eye exam within the next 12 months, with Millennials being the least likely.

Six-in-10 Patients are likely to wear their contact lenses longer than advised by their doctor. Top reasons why: Some 51 percent said their “eyes felt fine” and 31 percent said they “forgot to re-order them.”

What encourages patients to practice proper contact lens compliance? Forty percent said a monthly subscription of contact lenses most helps, while another 40 percent said more education on health risks related to over-wearing would be helpful. Some 24 percent said they most need “more education from my doctor on how long to wear contact lenses.”
