The pandemic has brought many changes to our world. One of the biggest is the requirement in some states that all people wear face coverings when in public. Mask-wearing is an important precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but what does a person do when their glasses get so fogged up with their mask on that they can’t see?

Fortunately, there is a new product, Shamir Glacier Anti-Fog, that I now am able to prescribe my patients.

Patient Convenience in a Cutting-Edge Practice
I like to think of my practice as offering the best products available to patients. When Shamir Glacier Anti-Fog became available, I saw it as our chance to both give patients exactly what they need at the time they most need it, while also branding my practice as cutting-edge.

There is no additional preparation required on the patient’s part to ensure anti-fogging other than putting the glasses with the Anti-Fog lens on. I am able to provide an easy solution for patients, with no need to direct them to costly anti-fog sprays that they would have to remember to apply to their glasses.

Shamir Glacier Anti-Fog works like any other pair of glasses. The patient puts them on and they are ready to go–with or without their mask on. Either way their view of world is clear and unobstructed by fogging.

Profitability Builder For Your Practice
When you can solve an immediate problem for your patients, the word quickly spreads, leading to many friends and family referrals. It has been common for a patient who is part of a work group to get the Anti-Fog lens, and within weeks, to have all of their co-workers come in for their own pair. The patient’s colleagues eagerly want to know where their work friend got glasses that don’t fog up with a mask on.

Similarly, amateur athletes in tennis and racquet ball leagues are coming in telling me they noticed that one of their fellow players had a pair of glasses that never fogged up, regardless of the weather or whether or not they had on a mask.

Patients are so motivated to purchase this product that the new Anti-Fog lens has boosted my second-pair sales. In just the first month of offering the lens, I have dispensed 30 additional pairs of glasses.

Variety of Options for Patients
I am able to provide the anti-fog benefit to patients with a range of visual needs, as this new lens comes in single-vision, computer glasses and progressives.

Patients who are presbyopic, or spend long hours on the computer, can benefit from this advanced anti-fog technology. That means that in addressing the immediate patient concern of preventing fogging while wearing masks I can also address other issues impacting the patient’s vision. This creates a total lens solution that makes patient satisfaction and return visits highly likely.

Great Support for Our Staff
When offering a new product to patients, the right training is imperative. For that reason, we were grateful when Shamir sent a rep to our office to teach our staff how to present the benefits of the lens to patients.

Our rep taught us how to explain to patients the conditions the lens works under, the best way to clean their new glasses, along with how to present pricing and lens packages to patients.

Get the Word Out to Patients
With such a great new product, we want to make sure our patients know about it. We advertise on our practice web site and social media the opportunity to purchase anti-fogging glasses. Here is the ad for the Anti-Fog lens that appears on our web site:

And here is how we presented the same ad on our practice Facebook page. We posted this at the beginning of May when we were the first optometry office in the U.S. to offer the Anti-Fog lens:

When you have an exciting new product that solves an immediate patient problem, your exam chair stays full and patients remember the doctor who found just the solution they needed when they needed it most.
