Essilor Calls for Entries for Varilux Student Grant Award Program

Essilor of America, manufacturer of optical lenses, is inviting optometry students across the country to submit case reports for the 30th annual Varilux Student Grant Award Program.

Students are asked to submit case reports on patients fit with Varilux lenses to their school’s faculty or clinical staff. The local faculty will select one recipient based on dispensing skills, application of Varilux lenses to specific patient needs, analysis of the case and analysis of the lens design and performance.

“It’s a humbling experience to offer this program as a part of Essilor’s commitment to empower our industry’s future leaders,” says Rod Tahran, OD, FAAO, vice-president of professional relations and clinical affairs for Essilor of America. “It’s truly a testament of Essilor’s investment in the future of eyecare to provide optometry students with experiences, such as this program, that test their knowledge and application of the skills they’ve learned in school.”

The student with the selected case report from each school will receive $1,000 plus an entry into national judging. The national award winner and the faculty advisor will each receive a $2,500 travel grant for Optometry’s Meeting to be held June 25 – 28, 2014, in Philadelphia, Penn.

Case reports should not exceed 2,000 words and should include the patient’s old and new prescription, occupation, hobbies, unique problem solving applications and pertinent information. Applicants are asked to include their name, address, e-mail address and phone number.

Completed case reports should be submitted by the school or college in printed form, on CD or by email to the attention of Danne Ventura (dventura@essilorusa.com) at Essilor of America, 13555 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75234. Entries must be postmarked or received via e-mail by February 1, 2014.
