ECP Survey Results: How Concerned Are You About Rising COVID Cases?

Ninety-seven percent of respondents said their location is open, according to the Wave 13 COVID-19 impact survey from Jobson Optical Research. This wave was open for responses from July 10-15, 2020. Two-thirds, 67 percent, of respondents say their staff has returned, although 33 percent said some staff have elected not to come back to work.

The percentage of respondents who said someone at their work location has gotten COVID-19 more than doubled since Wave 12, which was taken from June 19-23, 2020. It is at 7 percent now, compared to 3 percent in Wave 11 and 12.

Seventy-two percent of respondents say their area has seen an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, that compares to 48 percent in Wave 12. In fact, 23 percent said businesses in their area have been required to close because of rising COVID cases. Overall, 74 percent of respondents said they are very or somewhat concerned about the possibility of having to close their businesses again due to COVID-19.

The majority of practices are screening staff. Eighty-two percent of respondents say they are doing daily temperature checks and 65 percent are asking questions about contact with potentially infected people. The majority of practices are screening patients as well.

PRACTICE INDICATORS

Respondents to this wave showed an increase in more pre-COVID services. All of these indicators are at the highest percentage they have been since Jobson Optical Research started conducting the COVID-19 impact surveys.

  • 96 percent of respondents are seeing new patients
  • 31 percent of respondents are seeing walk-ins
  • 80 percent of respondents are performing contact lens fittings and trainings in office
  • 66 percent of respondents said that their location is open for normal hours
  • 71 percent of patients are making a purchase
  • Average patients per day is now 21.6, say respondents
