Madeline Romeu, OD, of Dr. Romeu Eye Associates of West New York, NJ, has developed a medically based optometric practice over three-plus decades by making the eye health of her patients her primary concern. She recommends that ODs acquire additional clinical skills in order to specialize as optometric physicians in a medically based practice. Further, they must be able to effectively explain to patients the risks of eye conditions and diseases and the importance of a healthy eye exam.
