AOA Celebrates Paraoptometric Recognition Week

Sept. 7, 2016

The American Optometric Association (AOA) has designated Sept. 18-24 as Paraoptometric Recognition Week for 2016. Now in its 14th year, Paraoptometric Recognition Week is designed to honor paraoptometrics for their dedication to the patients they serve and to the profession of optometry.

Paraoptometrics are key members of the eyecare delivery team in optometric offices nationwide, and their role has become more critical to providing outstanding patient care in today’s health care environment, the AOA said in a statement.

The AOA Paraoptometric Resource Center suggests a variety of ways to celebrate the week and encourages doctors to be creative in their planning. Paraoptometric Recognition Week promotional kits include a poster, table top tent, handouts for ODs with tips for staff recognition, information about AOA associate member enrollment and staff certification, and more. These AOA resources can be accessed at aoa.org/paraoptometrics/awards-and-recognition.

New Jersey paraoptometric Linda Rodgriguez, CPO, acknowledged the important role of staff for a successful practice. “The potential of a well-trained optometric staff is of utmost importance and [is part of] the formula to achieve a successful optometric practice,” she says.
