4 Opportunities for Optometry

April 17, 2019

There are great practice-building opportunities for optometrists in dry eye, myopia management, concussion therapy and early detection of Alzheimer’s Disease. Here’s why these areas are primed for growth, and how you can leverage these opportunities to better serve patients while generating additional revenues.

DRY EYE. Heavy digital device use has resulted in an epidemic of dry eye that’s only going to get worse. More patients at younger ages will need care to alleviate symptoms of dry eye.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT. More young people than ever are being diagnosed with myopia. Fortunately, technology has advanced to allow for containment of the worsening of it.

CONCUSSION THERAPY. Greater awareness of the dangers of concussions, and the needed recovery time, means greater opportunity for ODs to monitor the ocular aspects of concussion recovery.

EARLY DETECTION OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE. It has been discovered that early indications of the disease are apparent in the eyes. ODs may soon be the first doctors to raise a red flag that patients may have Alzheimer’s, allowing them to get treatment early.
