New Guide: Steps to Effectively Communicate an AMD Diagnosis

July 12, 2017

MacuLogix, Inc., has released a step-by-step communication guide for eyecare professionals treating patients with AMD.

The company has collaborated with Laurie Sorrenson, OD, to develop the “12 Ways to Turn an AMD Diagnosis into News That’s Worth Celebrating” e-book, which is available online at www.maculogix.com/amdguide.

MacuLogix says its AdaptDx automated dark adaptometer enables eyecare professionals to detect subclinical AMD three years earlier than it can be seen. To aid such early diagnosis, the company published the e-book to help doctors deliver the diagnosis with confidence, and improve long-term outcomes.

“How you deliver the message can make a significant difference in how a patient perceives it—and how they act on it. To that end, good communication skills can set you apart as a practitioner and have a major impact on patients’ lives,” says Laurie Sorrenson, OD, owner of Lakeline Vision Source in Cedar Park, TX. “Early diagnosis ought to be considered good news, but it can easily be misinterpreted as bad news, possibly resulting in less favorable outcomes.”

“12 Ways to Turn an AMD Diagnosis into News That’s Worth Celebrating” is designed to offer useful advice to help doctors improve delivery, with the goal of saving vision. It is available free of charge for download at www.maculogix.com/amdguide.
