Meet the Professional Editors of Review of Optometric Business
Mark Wright, OD, FCOVD, has extensive background in practice management. He is the founding partner of a nine-partner, three-location full scope optometric practice, which he sold in 2007. He works with practices of all sizes as CEO of Pathways to Success, an Internet-based practice management firm. He is faculty coordinator of the Bennett-VSP Business Management Program at Ohio State, one of the leading practice management programs in the country. He is author of Coding, Reimbursement and Contracting for Optometry, and he lectures nationally and internationally on practice management topics. Dr. Wright was the 2005-2006 Benedict Visiting Professor for the University of Houston College of Optometry, and the 1985 Young Optometrist of the Year in Ohio. He is a 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry.
Carole Burns, OD, FCOVD, along with her husband, Dr. Mark Wright, built a part time practice into multiple locations with nine doctors. She is the senior partner of this full scope optometric practice. She is also the COO of state-wide nursing care optometry practice. Dr. Burns lectures nationally on practice management and staffing issues. In 1989, Dr. Burns was awarded Young Optometrist of the Year in Ohio. Her practice was the cover story in the March 2008 issue of Women in Optometry. She is a 1984 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry, and she completed a residency in pediatrics and vision therapy at The State University of New York. Dr. Burns is a skilled clinician focusing on patients with special needs and has authored the Specialty Practice section of the textbook, Business Aspects of Optometry.
Drs. Wright and Burns both are fellows of the College of Vision Development and serve on the faculties of the Management & Business Academy™ and the First Practice Academy™.
